Monitoring the Stars with Zabbix and VIRAC

The Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Center (VIRAC) utilizes Zabbix to monitor critical equipment like telescopes, receivers, and data recorders, ensuring the smooth operation of their radio astronomy observations. Previously lacking a centralized monitoring solution, VIRAC adopted Zabbix due to its existing use within the university and its ability to consolidate monitoring of diverse systems. They’ve created custom dashboards, including a visual “map” of their telescopes, to quickly identify and address issues, and report Zabbix has already saved valuable scientific observations.
